ake Havasu is a growing, progressive community, where life is full and well rounded. We have exceptionally more than our share of cultural activities as well as superb recreational opportunities, along with clean air and beautiful blue water. These have produced a steady rate of growth for the community. In 1988, K - Mart opened and 87,000 square foot retail store in the New Havasu Plaza. In fall of 1989 a Factory Outlet Mall opened at Smoketree and Highway 95. In 1990, Wal - Mart opened an 75,779 square foot retail store at the north end of town, in 1992 that shopping center was expanded with the addition of several new stores, including J.C. Penny, Ace Hardware and Mega Foods. A Smith's Grocery opened at McCulloch Blvd, and Acoma Blvd in 1991. The Chamber believes these additions will make Lake Havasu City a regional shopping area. Havasu Samaritan Regional Hospital, a part of the state - wide Samaritan Health System, continues to grow to meet the needs of an expanding river area population. Enlarged in 1990 with a $13.5 million, 76,000 square foot building, the hospital has recently added a new fourth building housing a cancer care clinic, including radiation oncology, as well as accommodations for eight visiting physician - specialists. A new five - year plan calls for more physical plant expansion. Some 60 local physicians have medical staff privileges at the hospital. Hospital employees now total more than 500. The current Airport facility located north of town opened in June 1991. In May 1994, the Police Department moved into their new $5.5 million, two story brick 50,000 square foot police facility on McCulloch Blvd. The state - of - the - art station has a fully equipped jail able to house up to 40 inmates in a secured setting, a crime lab, evidence lockers, and dark room. "This building is designed for the future and designed for expansion," according to Chief John Alexander. All these factors combine to make Lake Havasu City a vital community in which to live and work. We hope you will come and grow with us. | |
