RACING FORMATS:
Closed Course -- Often described as “motocross on water,”
closed course competition is a multiple-lap race with up to 20 riders maneuvering
around a twisting, generally circular 1/2-mile course marked with buoys. Final
events for all classes will consist of two motos (except the Pro Ski and Pro
Runabout 1200 classes who will use a 60-point scoring system for three motos).
Riders will advance to the final (motos) through qualifying in a heat race and/or
Last Chance Qualifier. The rider with the best-combined finish from the two
motos will be declared the closed course winner. The Pro Ski and Expert will
also use two log jumps on the course, adding a significant degree of difficulty.
Slalom -- Racers individually negotiate a zigzag, 283-foot
course around nine stationary buoys for the fastest time. Slalom-- Expert, Novice,
Amateur Veteran Runabout classes ONLY.
Pro, Pro-Am, Sport, Masters, Amateur 14-15 Ski riders compete ONLY in Closed
Course races.
Freestyle -- Always a crowd favorite, freestyle competitors
perform a two-minute routine of watercraft acrobatics, demonstrating skill and
form while executing difficult and creative maneuvers. Similar to gymnastics,
judges score the routines “Olympic-style,” on a 1-to-10 basis, with
10 being “perfect”. A new, scored addition to this year’s
event will have competitors complete a high-flying trick, in the wake of two
powerboats. This will simulate a wave action found in surf competition.
