Security Boom to be Installed Downstream of Parker Dam

As part of its continued effort to heighten security at its dams, the Bureau of Reclamation will install a security boom across the Colorado River approximately 500 feet downstream of Parker Dam the week of March 24.

The purpose of the boom is to protect boaters from moving into the dam's security zone.

The boom will consist of seamless aluminum pontoons connected by a chain. Atop each pontoon will be two international-orange stake markers, supporting a cable that forms a fence across the total length of the security boom. To ensure high visibility, the fence will be covered with an orange vinyl coating.

Solar-powered amber warning lights will also be mounted on the boom and warning signs downstream of the boom will make boaters aware of its presence.
