LAKE MOOVALYA WATER LEVEL TO DROP ABOUT ONE FOOT

Lake Moovalya, the small body of water impounded behind Headgate Rock Dam north of Parker, Arizona, will be lowered approximately one foot in elevation from January 2 to January 14, 2001.

The draw down, which will only affect the river stretch between Parker and Headgate Rock Dams, is scheduled to begin at 8:00am Mountain Standard Time on Tuesday, January 2. Water levels are expected to return to normal elevations by 4am MST on Sunday, January 14.

During the draw down, the lake will be lowered approximately 1 foot to elevation 363.40. It is anticipated that the time required to lower the lake will be approximately 6 hours, but if unfavorable condistions are encountered, the draw down time could possibly extend to 24 hours or more.

Releases from Parker Dam during this period will average approximately 6,000 cubic feet second.

ALL RIVER USERS should remember that fluctuating river flows may conceal or create natural hazards such as moving sandbars, gravel bars, unstable riverbanks, floating or submerged debris, or other unfamiliar obstacles. Caution should be exercised while using the river at this time.
