Education
Three elementary schools, one middle school, one high school and one continuation school make up the Palo Verde Unified School District. Palo Verde Community College is a two-year institute. Additionally; there are two private schools available in Blythe.
Housing
Housing is affordable with the average new home transaction in Blythe usually in the high eighties or mid-nineties, compared with average new home transaction in Riverside County approaching $130,000. Dwelling rentals range from $300 to $550 per month for one or two bedroom apartments. Two-and three-bedroom houses run $450 to $800 per month. There are 23 motels and over 20 mobile home and trailer parks in the area.
The State of California constructed two correctional facilities which has created many jobs and brought more peolple to Blythe. To satisfy the needs of these new residents, developers are constructing more apartments, single family dwellings and several mobile home parks.
Labor
Historically, the valley has been tied to agriculture; however, the community college has expanded its curriculum in response to the need for skilled employees and in response to the growing population.
Medical
Palo Verde Hospital is a 55-bed acute care hospital providing 24-hour emergency room services with a physician on duty. It is fully equipped and staffed for; respiratory therapy, obstetrics, telemetry, impatient and out patient surgery, pharmacy services, and home health care services. Diagnostic capabilities include: EKG's, CT scans, FDA cerified ultrasound, fluoroscopy, FDA cerified mammography, x-ray, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). treadmill tests, pulmonary function testing, fully automated laboratory, and a Special Care Unit (SCU).
The primary medical staff includes family and general practitioners, surgeons, gynecologists, radiologists, internal medicine and 24-hour emergency room physicians. The community s also served by an extensive consulting medical staff in a multitude of specialists. Air Evac to regional major trauma centers is available should the need arise.
Financial Institutions
Three banks offer diverse and easy access. They include: Provident Savings, Union Bank of California, and Valley Independent Bank.
